Key loggers can be sent in many ways, antivirus and anti-spyware programs are not enough. You should be wary when accepting files, even from friends or having sharing folders on MSN with people. Firewalls are also fairly essential to protecting yourself.

Passwords should be change at the longest every 3 months. I personally feel passwords should be changed every 3 weeks to every month. Do not choose a password that is easily guessable like a character from one of your accounts or your real name or your favourite show [just a few examples]. Sharing passwords with ANYONE is another great way to get hacked/scammed. Choose a password that has at least 2 numbers and I can't recall if our password system allows it, but at least one punctuation mark. If you have more than one account, none of them should have the same passwords or similar passwords. Do NOT use the same password as your email address either.

I've been witness to this all happening too many times on myspace and other social networking sites and people were unaware of it happening until someone pointed it out. If you catch any suspicious activity on your account or something/someone suspicious on a friend's account take notice and inform someone immediately. This is the internet, be paranoid but please don't report EVERYTHING. Make sure whatever you report is in the LR rules before you report it and as always I accept anonymous LR reports. Another great tip to remember: GMs WILL NEVER ASK FOR YOUR PASSWORD. If they do they are NOT GMs. If you are suspicious of someone saying they are a GM and you don't believe them, ask them to prove it. Ask them to freeze you, make themselves larger or mute you for proof. You can also check to see if they are in the GM finder, not always accurate but it may help you in the long run.
